1. Introduction and Scope

This Privacy Policy describes how CDL Study App (the "App"), operated by Adrian Sanchez Mendez ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, and shares information when you use the App on iOS or Android devices.

The App is designed to help users prepare for the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) exam. It operates entirely without requiring user registration or account creation.

By downloading or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with its terms, please do not use the App.

For any privacy-related inquiries, contact us at: cdlstudyapp.com/support

2. Information We Collect

2A. Study & App Usage Data

Study progress, quiz and simulator attempts, test results, screens viewed, session length, and in-app interaction events. This data is completely anonymous and tied to an anonymous device identifier, not to your personal identity.

 2B. Identifiers & Technical Data

Device model, operating system version, and App version. Advertising-related identifiers (Advertising ID on Android / IDFA on iOS) used for ad measurement, frequency capping, and fraud prevention.

 2C. Approximate Location

The App may infer your approximate geographic location (at city or region level) through your IP address. This information is used solely to serve contextually relevant, non-personalized advertisements via Google AdMob and to comply with applicable regional privacy laws. We do not request or use GPS or precise location data.

 2D. Diagnostics

Crash logs, error traces, and performance data collected via Firebase Crashlytics to troubleshoot issues and maintain service reliability. This data is automatically deleted after 90 days.

2E. Advertising Data (Non-Personalized Ads Only)

The App displays advertisements using Google AdMob. We request non-personalized ads only, meaning ads are served based on contextual information (App content and approximate location) rather than a behavioral advertising profile. Even for non-personalized ads, ad technology providers may process certain technical data for measurement, frequency capping, and fraud prevention under their own privacy policies.

2F. Support Communications

If you contact us via our support link, we temporarily collect the information you submit (such as your name, email address, and message) solely to address your inquiry. This data is retained for no more than 90 days after your request is resolved and then permanently deleted.

2G. App Store & Platform Data

When you download or update the App, Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) independently collect data according to their own privacy policies. We do not control, access, or receive this system-level data.

3. How We Use Information

We process the collected technical data solely to:

•       Operate, maintain, and improve the App's study experience, content quality, and technical stability.

•       Analyze anonymous usage patterns via Google Analytics for Firebase and fix technical errors via Firebase Crashlytics.

•       Display non-personalized advertisements via Google AdMob and measure ad performance (e.g., frequency capping, fraud prevention).

•       Infer approximate location to serve contextually relevant ads and comply with applicable regional privacy regulations.

•       Prevent fraud, detect abuse, and comply with applicable legal obligations.

•       Respond to your support inquiries.

4. Sharing of Information & Service Providers

We do not sell your personal information for monetary compensation. We share anonymous technical identifiers and usage data with the following service providers solely to operate the App:

•       Google / Firebase — Analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase) and diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics). Data processed under Google's Privacy Policy.

•       Google AdMob — Non-personalized advertising and ad measurement. Data processed under Google's Privacy Policy.

We do not share data with any other third parties for their own marketing purposes. We may disclose information only when strictly required by law, court order, or governmental authority; to protect the safety of users or the public; to prevent fraud or abuse; or in the event of a business transfer (e.g., merger or acquisition), subject to reasonable confidentiality safeguards.

5. International Data Transfers

The App uses Google services (Firebase and AdMob), which may transfer and process data on servers located in the United States and other countries where Google operates data centers. These transfers occur pursuant to Google's standard contractual clauses and applicable data transfer mechanisms.

If you are located outside the United States, including in Canada, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, please be aware that your technical data may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws than your country of residence. By using the App, you acknowledge this transfer.

We do not independently transfer data to countries outside the United States beyond what Google's infrastructure requires to operate the App.

6. US State Privacy Rights & Do Not Sell / Share

Depending on your state of residence (including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, and Florida), you may have specific rights regarding your data under applicable state privacy laws.

While we do not sell data for money, allowing third-party SDKs such as Google AdMob to collect device identifiers for ad measurement may be considered "sharing" or a "sale" under certain state laws (like the CPRA). You have the right to opt out of this processing.

Important Note on Data Access and Deletion Requests

Because the App operates entirely without user accounts or registration, all analytics, diagnostic, and advertising data are associated exclusively with anonymous device identifiers. We do not collect names, emails, or other personally identifiable information that would allow us to link these anonymous identifiers to a specific individual.

Consequently, we cannot technically verify your identity to process individual "Right to Know," "Right to Access," or "Right to Portability" requests. To exercise your "Right to Delete" and your right to opt out of "sale/sharing," you must use the device-level tracking controls detailed in Section 7 or uninstall the App. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

7. Your Choices & Tracking Opt-Out

You can control how your device handles advertising identifiers and data collection through the following native device settings:

 Apple (iOS)

•     Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track" for this App.

 Android

•       Go to Settings > Google > Ads.

•       Select "Opt out of Ads Personalization" or "Delete advertising ID" (option name varies by Android version and device manufacturer).

You may permanently stop all future data collection and clear all locally stored identifiers by uninstalling the App from your device. Reinstalling the App will generate a new anonymous device identifier with no connection to prior data.

Note on "Do Not Sell or Share" for California Residents: The only technical mechanism available to opt out of third-party ad measurement is through the device-level tracking controls described above, as the App does not maintain user accounts. Exercising this opt-out will not affect your ability to use the App.

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

The App is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 as defined by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

The App is designed exclusively for adults seeking to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). CDL applicants must be at least 18 years of age for intrastate driving and at least 21 years of age for interstate commercial driving under federal regulations (49 CFR §383.71). As a result, our intended user base consists entirely of adults.

Our implementation of Google AdMob is configured as "not directed to children" in our AdMob dashboard settings, which instructs Google not to serve child-directed ad content or apply COPPA-specific ad treatment to our App's ad inventory.

If we learn that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete that information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at cdlstudyapp.com/support.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain data under strict operational limits:

•       Analytics & Usage Data: Retained via Google Analytics for Firebase for a maximum of 14 months, after which it is automatically aggregated or deleted.

•       Crash Logs & Diagnostics: Retained via Firebase Crashlytics for a maximum of 90 days, then automatically deleted.

•       Support Communications: Retained for no more than 90 days after your request is resolved, then permanently deleted.

•       Advertising Identifiers: Managed by Google AdMob under Google's data retention policies.

Because the App operates without user accounts or registration, all analytics, diagnostic, and advertising data are associated with anonymous device identifiers. We cannot link these anonymous identifiers to a specific personal identity (such as a name or email address). To delete your local data and sever the connection to these anonymous identifiers, you must uninstall the App.

10. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards to protect technical data in transit and at rest. All telemetry data is transmitted to our service providers via HTTPS/TLS encryption. Since we do not collect passwords, financial data, or sensitive personal information, our security approach is focused on securing the transmission and storage of anonymous technical identifiers.

While we implement reasonable security measures, no data transmission over the internet or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. In the unlikely event of a data breach involving personal information, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities as required by applicable law.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices, services, or applicable legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will:

•       Post the updated Policy within the App and on our website at cdlstudyapp.com.

•       Update the "Last Updated" and "Effective Date" at the top of this document.

•       Display an in-app notice on your next App launch for any material changes.

Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any update constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
